CATEGORIES FOR OBSERVATION/EVALUATION

 

 

Track One:
Probationary Teachers
(New hires or less than 2 years experience)

 

 

During the first three (3) weeks of school, the principal will orient all track one teachers regarding supervisory procedures and instruments.  The track one teacher will be assigned an experienced teacher who will be the designated mentor for the track one teacher’s first year and this mentor may be asked to assist in the observation and/or prescription process.

  • Probationary teachers will be observed in the classroom at least three times per school year.
  • At least three observation reports will be written on new teachers prior to March 1. 
  • The primary supervisor, appointed mentor and the teacher will develop an annual ISP and address any IIP concerns.
  • A year-end evaluation report will be prepared by the primary supervisor.  This report will be discussed with the respective teacher and the teacher's signature will indicate that he/she has read and received the report.  The report will be filed in the school office before the last day of school.
  • Training: Track One teachers will attend the “New Teacher Workshops” offered by Milwaukee Public Schools.  WCA will cover the expenses. See the RESOURCES section on this website for the course manual.

 

 

Track Two:

Mentor Experienced Teachers
Teachers who have taught at the school
more than two years
and whose
performance meets state and school standards.

 

 

  • Experienced teachers will be observed at least once per school year.
  • The primary supervisor and the teacher will develop an annual ISP.
  • Classroom observations focusing on Skills of Effective Instruction may be considered a part of each ISP.

 

 

Track Three:

Non-Mentor Experienced Teachers

Teachers who have taught at the school more than two years
and whose
performance requires improvement.

 

 

  • The primary supervisor will establish a conference with each teacher to review the previous year's teacher supervisory file.
  • The teacher will be informed of any issues requiring improvement and an individualized instructional prescription (IIP) will be collaboratively developed by the supervisor, mentor and teacher involved.  The teacher must show reasonable and preferably measurable progress on the IIP prior to March 1.
  • Track three teachers will be observed at least twice per school year.
  • Classroom observations and review sessions will be considered a part of every ISP for teachers in this category.
  • Training: Track Three teachers must take the “Characteristics of High Performance Urban Classroom” Workshop offered by Milwaukee Public Schools.  WCA will cover the expenses. See the RESOURCES section on this website for the course manual.

 

 

A year-end evaluation report will be prepared by the primary supervisor for each teacher assigned.  This report will be discussed with the respective teacher, and the teacher's signature will indicate that he/she has read and received the report. The report will be filed in the school office by the last day of school.
